I don't think I've ever seen her on stage at the Grammy's, AMA's or MTV awards.ĭidn't she complain about not getting nominated for BET 2011 awards? She's performed on different BET award shows numerous times.
She had 2 reality TV shows on Black Entertainment Television and never complained about why they would ask her when she was cashing her checks. I could really care less what she calls herself but the hypocrisy is what's most blatant to me. We don't ask to be conceived, and we sure have no say in HOW. As for trick babies-don't blame the child for their mother's behavior. A bastard baby is one that is conceived by unwed parents-which nowadays includes almost everyone (myself included). She is a strong woman who has made a success of herself despite all of the negativity around trick baby does not equal bastard baby. Genetics are a funny thing.ĭon't be so hard on Keyshia-I believe that she is trying out an identity and a self-label because the one she was given by society, her family and the black community is not complete. Look at the POTUS- he doesn't look white or necessarily "mixed"-but he is. It is not too far-fetched for her to believe that her father is white. Keyshia has the right to search for her identity and to try to make sense out the circumstances under which she was conceived-but that should be done PRIVATELY considering her fanbase and the many black girls and women who look to her as a black icon. What good would it do to tell Keyshia that her father is a white trick? Also the shame that Keyshia's mother must feel about the things she did back then-even crackheads have pride. I think her mother does know that her father is white, but won't tell her for the very reasons others on here have stated-she was raised in a black community with black people, and the fact that her mother was a crackhead probably tricking. Maybe she is saying he is white because something inside her (intuition, instinct) is telling her that he is. I am in the same boat-I don't know who my father is either. Cole has also been accused of trashing a place she was renting, resulting in a lawsuit by her former landlord.I agree that she should have thought of her fanbase when saying this, but I also see a person who is searching for answers when none are given to her. Her short marriage to NBA star David Gibson, which also spawned a show ironically titled Keyshia & Daniel: Family First, highlights her relationship troubles. In 2014, she spent a night in jail after assaulting another woman in a jealous rage. Cole is no stranger to controversy as well. Cole’s fast popularity helped land her her own reality TV show on BET, her own shoe line, and several awards and award nominations. Her first album, The Way It Is, went gold, and then platinum, a testament to the young singer/songwriter’s talents. By 18, she had already landed a record deal with A&M records. As a well-connected teenager, she was able to meet and greet with many well-known rap artists, including M.C. One of many black musicians to have risen out of the tough Oakland, California neighborhoods, Cole found fame and fortune at a very young age. Talented, beautiful and perhaps a bit dangerous, Keyshia Cole has carved her name in the music history books.
